Pedagogy, Format and Venue

This is what you can expect in terms of the delivery of the various modules.

  • Cohorts: We will teach the courses in cohorts of 12-16 students that remain together for four years.

  • Half-time pace: This is program is designed for leaders who are working full-time and often have families. This kind of leader cannot attend classes full-time. The only option for this M.A. is at a half-time pace. The degree will take four years to complete.

  • Seminars and cohort discussions: The courses will be a mixture of seminars with lectures and discussions.

  • Multiple professors: Most courses are taught by more than one professor. Theological unity is maintained and fragmentation avoided by having a theological director who is involved in all courses.

  • Flexible assignments: Our desire is in a variety of ways to connect the academic work with the local congregation. So we offer flexibility in assignments in connection with ministry in local church.

  • Location: Courses are taught in a comfortable home setting in Tempe.

  • Time investment: You will put in about 420 hours over the whole year which will include reading, assignments, and class meetings. In terms of class time, over a one month period there will be an average of three weeks when the cohort meets once a week for 2.5 hours and one week when the cohort meets twice for a total of 5 hours. Cohorts meet either early in the morning 6 – 8.30 a.m. or in the evening 6 – 8.45 p.m. so participants can work normal hours.
